A Daughter's Fight Against Tradition

1999, my mom lost her job in a wave of layoffs from state-owned enterprises.
My dad had always wanted a son, but he was a teacher and my mom was a factory worker. The One-Child Policy of that era meant he could only have me, a daughter.
