A Wish Beyond the Veil

In a world where wishes come at a steep price, a deity watches as an ambitious dreamer enters the life of a courtesan, seeking luxury and freedom. But as dreams morph into nightmares, who will save her from her self-chosen fate?

Prologue
I am the last Deity in this world.
Usually, I have no particular hobbies, except for listening to people's wishes—of course, whether I grant them or not depends entirely on my mood.
Because human wishes are so boringly repetitive, I haven't used my powers in a very long time.
Until that dreamer appeared before me.
She wished to me that she wanted to travel back in time to ancient days and become a courtesan.
A courtesan?
When I heard this wish, I immediately sat up from my cloud.
I must say, in all my years as a Deity, I'd never encountered such an outlandish wish. It was as shocking as if someone had told me they wanted to swap lives with a beggar.
Out of a sense of playfulness, I agreed to her request—well, I might as well admit it, I wanted to see the show.
In any case, when I appeared before her, we were both excited.
I was excited because she was stunningly beautiful, perfect material for a courtesan. After granting her wish, it was sure to be quite a spectacle.
She was excited because she'd seen a living Deity, and her wish was about to come true—traveling through time, free and unfettered, how wonderful!
While sending her through time, I asked her why she'd made such a wish.
She was so happy she almost jumped, her voice nearly cracking with excitement as she spoke. She said the life of a courtesan was one of luxury and servants, with all eyes upon her, the center of attention—how many people yearn for that but can never attain it!
And once she'd earned enough money, she could leave that life, reform, and make an honest living singing with her girlfriends, far from the common rabble—how carefree!
She told me excitedly.
And if she could meet a dashing gentleman...
As she spoke to me, her eyes were shining so brightly that I had some things I wanted to say but didn't dare, fearing that if I dampened her enthusiasm, I'd have nothing left to play with. So I simply told her:
'Alright, I'll grant your wish.'
